Detalled program:
DAY 1- Welcomed by your tour guides at SAN PEDRO SULA International Airportin Honduras.
-Departure to Bay of Tela for a first approach of the Caribbean coastal vegetation: coconut, palm and banana trees;
-Introduction and getting ready each student for a first night with their new host family (or night in a hotel).
DAY 2 - Visit of the Garifuna village where the solidarity project will take place ;
- Presentation of the country, Garifuna ethnic, and the volunteer program that will be implemented during the stay with the local population. The GARIFUNAS arrived in 1797 and have their own culture, a cultural richness of the country, their own dialect spoken 100%, their food, their rites of voodoo and their music (Punta and Yancunu);
- Meeting Lunch with local authorities and the village chief;
- In the afternoon, planning the final details for the different tasks: missing material, estimated time for project completion, etc.;
Note - Before the group arrives, our team has purchased materials and has deposited it on the project site.
- Relaxing on the community's beaches in the Afro-Caribbean atmosphere;
- Dinner and overnight at the host family (or night in a hotel).
DAY 3 - Morning: Beginning the solidarity project. Step 1: concrete foundation for the support of the house;
- Lunch with all project's participants (visitors, residents and the village chief are invited to a meal of local cuisine in huts on the beach);
- Afternoon: Continuation and end of step 1. Around 4 pm, matching the students with local students in the village's school to promote a true contact and common awareness;
- Dinner and overnight at the host family (or night in a hotel). Overview of the day with the whole group at 7:30pm.
DAY 4 - Morning: Continuation of the solidarity project. Step 2: construction of walls made with bottles and clay ;
- Lunch with all project's participants;
- Afternoon: Continuation of step 2;
- Introduction to Garifuna dialect with local teachers, between 4 and 6pm;
- Dinner and overnight at the host family (or night in a hotel). Balance of the day with the whole group at 7:30pm.
DAY 5 - Morning: Continuation of solidarity project. Step 2;
- Lunch with all project's participants;
- Afternoon: Continuation of step 2;
- Continuation of the introduction to Garifuna dialect with local teachers between 4 and 6pm;
- Dinner and overnight at the host family (or night in a hotel).
DAY 6 - Morning: Continuation of solidarity project. End of step 2;
- Lunch with all project's participants;
- Afternoon: Continuation of step 2;
- Dinner and overnight at the host family (or night in a hotel). Balance of the day with the whole group at 7:30pm.
DAY 7 - Departure to Punta Izopo Wildlife refugee for a trip in tropical jungle;
- Travel by canoe in a reserve: we get inside the jungle along the Hicaque river and the Rio Platano (Banana River) through mangroves accompanied by the jungle sounds. Genetic diversity is impressive with more than 345 animals species. In the afternoon, we will return by canoe and boat to the pier where we expect our 4x4 ride back to Triunfo de la Cruz;
- Dinner and overnight at the host family (or night in a hotel).
DAY 8 - Morning: Continuation of the solidarity project. Step 3: Installation of the roof structure;
- Lunch with all the participants of the project (local cuisine meal in huts on the beach);
- Afternoon: Continuation of Step 3;
- Dinner and overnight at the host family (or night in a hotel). Overview of the day with the whole group at 19 h 30.
DAY 9 - Morning: Continuation of solidarity project. Step 3: Installation of the roof structure.
- Lunch with all the participants of the project (meal in huts on the beach);
- Afternoon: Step 4: Installation of doors and windows;
- Dinner and overnight at the host family (or night in a hotel). Overview of the day with the whole group at 7:30pm.
DAYS 10 & 11 - CAYOS COCHINOS Island
- In the morning, we will leave by bus and then by boat to CHACHAHUATE island. According to local people's views, if there is a paradise on earth, it is there. This small island, 240 meters long, is bordered by a white sand beach and crystal clear sea. Its tiny Garifuna population is traditional and very joyful. Chachahuate is part of a exceptional marine reserve because it is very little affected by man. The small island is located in the middle of the reef where hundreds of species of fish remain, including coralfish , moonfish, groupers and thousands of colorful fishes!
- Relaxation, snorkeling and sharing with the local population, including cleaning the island;
- Sunset on the beach in tents, hammocks and among the island inhabitants.
DAY 12 - Morning: Continuation of solidarity project. Step 5: Finish the house;
- Lunch with all project's participants (the village chief, local residents and visitors are invited to a meal of local cuisine in huts on the beach);
- Afternoon: Step 5: Finish the house;
- Dinner and overnight at the host family (or night in a hotel). Balance of the day and the end of the project with the whole group at 7:30pm.
DAY 13 - In the morning, visit Tela for shopping and souvenirs;
- Afternoon: Closing the social Project in the community. Project Overview: the strengths, weaknesses and learning;
- In the evening, performing dances and traditional singings, followed by a meal hosted by the community to thank the group for his collaboration with the host families and all project participants;
- Overnight at the host family (or night in a hotel).
DAY 14- Departure and Farewell to host families;
- Transfer to SAN PEDRO SULA airport for international flight home.
